The forest fruits with hints of blackcurrant, blackberries and coffee beans are so dark in color, the wine is dark Granat red half black and half blue. Cherries, black current and will do well in the cellar for years to come.

The alcohol content is already a hint that this is not your everyday Frankovka. Grown on a slope of silica and gravel, the cheery taste is deep and intense. Aged for 18 months in oak vats, this is one you will remember .

Mike's Tip

Golden in color and quality. This wine opens with a scent of apricots and citrus, and balances the flavor with honey and minerals. The east facing slope where the grapes grow bring an extra bit of minerality, that I am sure all will appreciate.

Mike's Tip

Inspired from blue summer skies, this light and very dry Riesling will be a perfect companion for a picnic or outdoor lunch. Don't let the low alcohol fool you, it still has plenty of that classic sweet & sour punch.

Zweigeltrebe Premium

Wine description:

  • Country: Czech Republic

  • Style: Medium-bodied red wine
  • Drink: Wine with potencial 2 to 5 years
  • Supplier: Winery Čapka
  • Box: What brought Čáp
  • Price: 369 Kč

Mike's Tip

A medium bodied red with dark fruit and just a hint of vanilla. For those not familiar with this variety, this will be a great introduction given it's soft flavor, balance and lack of green pepper. Think about a dinner with pork or other white meats.

Cabernet Moravia Premium

Wine description:

  • Country: Czech Republic
  • Grape: Cabernet Moravia
  • Alcohol: 13,5%
  • Style: Medium-bodied red wine
  • Drink: Wine with potencial 2 to 5 years
  • Supplier: Winery Čapka
  • Box: What brought Čáp
  • Price: 369 Kč

Mike's Tip

Moravia are doing remarkably well with what little sun we get. This is a well balanced medium bodied red aged for 12 months in French oak. Lots of black currant and a surprisingly full bodied Moravian.

Veltlínské zelené Battonage

Wine description:

  • Country: Czech Republic
  • Grape: Grüner Veltliner
  • Alcohol: 12%
  • Style: Rich, full-bodied dry white wine
  • Drink: Wine with potencial 2 to 5 years
  • Supplier: Winery Čapka
  • Box: What brought Čáp
  • Price: 209 Kč

Mike's Tip

This is a much heavier and complex wine having passed through the "battonage" or mixing process. As the wine ages over 6 months, the sediment at the bottom of the barrel is mixed in with the wine creating complexity. White meat and goat cheese for this one.

Ryzlink Rýnský

Wine description:

  • Country: Czech Republic
  • Grape: Riesling
  • Alcohol: 12%
  • Style: Light and refreshing dry white wine
  • Drink: Wine for immediate consumption
  • Supplier: Winery Čapka
  • Box: What brought Čáp
  • Price: 209 Kč

Mike's Tip

Yellow and gold in color, look for citrus fruits and a hint of grass and herbs. Sometimes a lower alcohol content helps so much and this as a great example of an enjoyable wine that is light and fruity and immensely easy to drink.

Čapka Pinot Gris 2015

Wine description:

  • Country: Czech Republic
  • Grape: Pinot grigio
  • Alcohol: 12,5%
  • Style: Medium-bodied dry white wine
  • Drink: Wine for immediate consumption
  • Supplier: Winery Čapka
  • Box: Surprisingly Rich
  • Price: 208 Kč

Mike's Tip

Another surprisingly full bodied wine from Mr Capka. A mix of sugar and acidity gives this wine a big full taste suitable for sipping into the
evening. I would pair this with mature cheese or Asian food. Spicy will be good !

Čapka Chardonnay Premium

Wine description:

  • Country: Czech Republic
  • Grape: Chardonnay
  • Alcohol: 13%
  • Style: Light and refreshing dry white wine
  • Drink: Wine suitable for aging
  • Supplier: Winery Čapka
  • Box: Surprisingly Rich
  • Price: 389 Kč

Mike's Tip

A Czech Chablis ? Well, certainly the quality is there, but this one has a more distinct taste of fruit and a lighter minerality. Aged in oak and now just released to market, you will be some of the first to have this treasure on your table. Full bodied and a waste without fish or a pork chop to accompany it.

Čapka Frankovka 2014

Wine description:

  • Country: Czech Republic
  • Grape: Blaufrankisch
  • Alcohol: 13,5%
  • Style: Medium-bodied red wine
  • Drink: Wine suitable for aging
  • Supplier: Winery Čapka
  • Box: Surprisingly Rich
  • Price: 216 Kč

Mike's Tip

Start by asking yourself if you have ever seen a Frankovka with 13.5% alcohol. This was the wine that convinced me that Capka was something special. Honestly a Frankovka this full bodied is a very (very) rare find. Best served with red meat, or other foods with sauces.

Čapka Zweigeltrebe rosé 2015

Wine description:

  • Country: Czech Republic
  • Grape: Zweigeltrebe
  • Alcohol: 11,5%
  • Style: Light semi-dry rose wine
  • Drink: Wine for immediate consumption
  • Supplier: Winery Čapka
  • Box: Surprisingly Rich
  • Price: 208 Kč

Mike's Tip

Sometimes in the summer you just want an ice cold, fruity wine that you know will make everybody around the table happy. Areasonable alcohol content, full of strawberry and raspberry taste, and slightly more sugar. This combination is best server out of an ice bucket in the back yard with big messy burgers or other relaxed food. Something spicy of the grill will go perfect here.

Čapka Chardonnay 2015

Wine description:

  • Country: Czech Republic
  • Grape: Chardonnay
  • Alcohol: 12,5%
  • Style: Light and refreshing dry white wine
  • Drink: Wine for immediate consumption
  • Supplier: Winery Čapka
  • Box: Surprisingly Rich
  • Price: 208 Kč

Mike's Tip

Going bananas! Seriously. It is not that unusual to get strong banana tones in a chardonnay and if you were looking for a perfect example. Here you are. After you get past the fruit, you will have the minerals o finish it off. A fine example from Hruškách:-)

Čapka Sylvaner 2015

Wine description:

  • Country: Czech Republic
  • Grape: Sylvaner
  • Alcohol: 12,5%
  • Style: Light and refreshing dry white wine
  • Drink: Wine with potencial 2 to 5 years
  • Supplier: Winery Čapka
  • Box: Surprisingly Rich
  • Price: 208 Kč

Mike's Tip

Think white fruits. Peaches and nectarines with just a touch of minerals. You will almost see it in its light golden color. Fine balance of fruit an acidity, will go great with fish or other white meat dishes. This is a wine that will really go best with food - don't do this on on its own!
