New World South

Back to school, back from holiday and (probably) weeks away from a new Covid lock-down, what better time to drink some South American wines from with our new supplier Budamont! (we can’t think of any !)

As we start the fall, we wanted to cover all the bases. Subtle whites that you can still enjoy outside in the last ways of the warm sun, a fresh medium bodied red that will go great with the fall leaves and a pic pic lunch, and a couple full bodied heavy duty reds that you can enjoy with dinner to sofa. So, what have we got in September ?

Whites: we start with Sauvignon Blanc which are a pale straw color and very, very light on the palate. More casual in their presentation than big dinner affairs. Then on to the Chardonnay – full of tropical fruits and minerals with less butter and banana. All in all fresher and less heavy.

Our reds had to start with a Malbec, what else from the new world? From there we stayed “regional”and included a spicy Carmenera and a bone dry Sauvignon that is crying out for you to use that grill one more time.

We also included a bit prototype – 2 serious wines that came straight from the steel tank. With no oak aging to mellow (or cover up) any of the fruit flavor, PURE brings 2 wines that you can decide for yourself if those delicate flavors are for you or not.

Now be SAFE, stay HEALTHY, pray your kids get ot STAY IN SCHOOL, and chill out with a glass at the end of the day. Stay Calm and IWCoK !!!

Torrontes

Wine description:

  • Grape: Torrontes
  • Alcohol: 13%
  • Style: Light and refreshing dry white wine
  • Drink: Wine for immediate consumption
  • Supplier: Herink Vinotéka
  • Price: 115 Kč

Mike's Tip

Torrontes is a typical Argentinian variety known for hints of exotic fruit. This wine is quite dry, yet has a medium acidity and flavor of passion fruit, pineapple and grapefruit. Serve cold and fish will be your best bet. Better yet, September is mussels month - go for it.

Viu Manent Reserve

Wine description:

  • Country: Chile
  • Grape: Chardonnay
  • Alcohol: 14%
  • Style: Medium-bodied dry white wine
  • Drink: Wine for immediate consumption
  • Supplier: Herink Vinotéka
  • Price: 159 Kč

Mike's Tip

This one may surprise you! Nothing about butter or banana, but everything about green apples and acidity. This Chablis not California. The two months in oak does more to mature than to flavor a wine that is already a tropical, citrus mix!

Viu Manent Reserve

Wine description:

  • Country: Chile
  • Grape: Sauvignon blanc
  • Alcohol: 13,5%
  • Style: Medium-bodied dry white wine
  • Drink: Wine for immediate consumption
  • Supplier: Herink Vinotéka
  • Price: 159 Kč

Mike's Tip

Light straw in color, this wine is much more about pears and lychee than wild grass. Perfect for a salad with goat cheese or white fish. Very delicate flavor that needs subtle foods.

Pure

Wine description:

  • Country: Argentina
  • Grape: Sauvignon blanc
  • Alcohol: 12,5%
  • Style: Light and refreshing dry white wine
  • Drink: Wine for immediate consumption
  • Supplier: Herink Vinotéka
  • Price: 320 Kč

Mike's Tip

Pure is the high end line that never saw a barrel, making it the best way to taste what the land has to offer. Very light in color and flavor, look for a medium acidity and taste of white fruit. Subtle and elegant.

Pure

Wine description:

  • Country: Argentina
  • Grape: Malbec
  • Alcohol: 13,5%
  • Style: Medium-bodied red wine
  • Drink: Wine with potencial 2 to 5 years
  • Supplier: Herink Vinotéka
  • Price: 320 Kč

Mike's Tip

Without aging in oak, this wine is much lighter and fruitier than the jammy bombshells you see all the time. This is a delicate, medium bodied red better suited for pork and chicken.

Trapiche Broquel

Wine description:

  • Country: Argentina
  • Grape: Malbec
  • Alcohol: 14,5%
  • Style: Full-bodied, rich red wine
  • Drink: Wine with potencial 2 to 5 years
  • Supplier: Herink Vinotéka
  • Price: 259 Kč

Mike's Tip

Marmalade, smoke, vanilla and chocolate. Malbec is always a full bodied drink and this one adds a touch of tannins to balance the jammy flavor you get from Malbec. An elegant Malbec at a bargain price.

Viu Manent Reserve

Wine description:

  • Country: Chile
  • Grape: Carmenére
  • Alcohol: 14%
  • Style: Full-bodied red aged in oak
  • Drink: Wine with potencial 2 to 5 years
  • Supplier: Herink Vinotéka
  • Price: 159 Kč

Mike's Tip

Spicy, Smokey and full of the earth - that is what describes Carmenere best. Look for "Dark" tastes like black berry, blueberry , black cherry and cinnamon. The pallet is mellow but very distinct, pair with strong foods.

Viu Manent Gran Reserve

Wine description:

  • Country: Chile
  • Grape: Cabernet Saugvinon
  • Alcohol: 13%
  • Style: Full-bodied red aged in oak
  • Drink: Wine with potencial 2 to 5 years
  • Supplier: Herink Vinotéka
  • Price: 279 Kč

Mike's Tip

I put this one as a classic new world Cabernet. Bold and bone dry. Flavor is well balanced and not overpowered by oak, look for black currant with a touch of smoke. This wine demands meat or strong food.
