Box: October 2019

Colors of fall

Probably the best thing about the fall is the color all around you. That was our inspiration this month, to find a box of wine with all those different colors and tastes, from around the world with a collection of medals around their necks.

Our fall tour starts with two different Sauvingnon. Marlborough is the region of New Zealand that produces what many think is the worlds best, but we have added a contender from Spain hat challenges that notion. And how about a German Sylvaner ? A rare variety that will remind you of Riesling from the central European hills. We move on to an Italian Trebbiano that will bring a touch of sunshine to even the darkest and rainiest days of October. And finally a very serious Veltlin, from the oldest vines in the highest hills and aged in the most mature oak. A refined Austrian Gentleman.

Our reds this month start on the steep hills of the Douro river in Portugal and then lead us to Spain for a merlot and tempranillo blend that may well become the value wine of winter. We then drop down to the south of Italy for another wine from Luccareli, this time a Negro Amaro that is just as full and fruity as it’s primitivo brother (that was so popular with members just a few months ago). It is then back up to Spain for two big blends. Flores de Callejo is a 90+ point wine that is exceptional in every way. A mastery of flavor and tannin that demands BEEF. Then it’s softer cousin Lunetico, which is like drinking warm, red, liquid velvet. Not fuzzy – just smooth and soft.

So be it the last shoots of green or the softer tones of brown, this months box will put all the colors of fall on your table – Enjoy.

Remember this wines brother K Naia ? It was without question one of our most popular whites in the past 12 months. This time we come back with a pure Sauvignon with a "big nose and soft mouth". Refreshing and the same 100% quality we have come to expect from this winery.

One of the easiest to recognize wines for me is a sauvignon from Marlborough. Crisp and "green", with limes and grass. This is another Prague Wine Gold medal winner and one sip will tell you why.
