The South and the East

This month we opened up a map of Europe and decided to travel to the extremes of the (wine) continent. Sure, we bring you some summer holiday favourites (Grillo, Chianti) but also some rarer varieties that we needed to travel a bit to find.

South ern Italy is a good summer holiday spot, but how many of us get to the very bottom of Italy or the isle of Sardinia to find the indigenous Nuragus grape ? The white wines we took from there are pale but refreshing – perfect for the last warm days of summer. The reds on the other hand are big, full bodied high alcohol bomb shells.  You all know that a Nero d’Avola and Primitivo bring a huge amount of flavour to the table, and the sweet fruity tones make them exceptionally easy to drink.

Moving about as far East as we can go, our Moldavian red is really something special. Full of blackberry and pepper, this Feteasca Neagra  (and winery) is really an exceptional find that we will for sure return to soon.

If you are one of those lucky ones still enjoying a holiday somewhere, this month’s selection should give you something to look forward to come home to. If you’re already back, then why wait ?!  Open this month’s liquid atlas .

Primitivo as an aperitive ? With the right sausage and cheese, absolutely. The taste is intense, but VERY fruity, so does well with light finger food.
