Moravia and Beyond
April 2026

We thought it was time for a Moravia tour and feature a few Czech wines this April from our old friends and 2025 Winery of the Year – Vinařství Čapka.
A Czech special would not be complete without a selection of Rieslings, Frankovka and Pinot Noir, and we have them all. And for those looking for something from a bit further afield, a selection of Austrian and Italian entries have snuck their way in.
Whatever you are celebrating this April, we have something special for you.
Riesling 2024

- Alcohol: 11%
- Style: Rich, full-bodied dry white wine
- Drink: Wine with potencial 2 to 5 years
- Supplier: Winery Čapka

Mike's Tip
Inspired from blue summer skies, this light and very dry Riesling will be a perfect companion for a picnic or outdoor lunch. Don't let the low alcohol fool you, it still has plenty of that classic sweet & sour punch.
Terroir Nechory

- Country: Czech Republic
- Grape: Riesling
- Alcohol: 13%
- Style: Rich, full-bodied dry white wine
- Drink: Wine suitable for aging
- Supplier: Winery Čapka

Mike's Tip
Golden in color and quality. This wine opens with a scent of apricots and citrus, and balances the flavor with honey and minerals. The east facing slope where the grapes grow bring an extra bit of minerality, that I am sure all will appreciate.
Santa Sofia
Wine description:
- Country: Italy
- Grape: Garganera
- Alcohol: 13%
- Style: Medium-bodied dry white wine
- Drink: Wine with potencial 2 to 5 years
- Supplier: K2T
- vivino: 3.4
- Price: 326 Kč
Mike's Tip
Green apples, pears, almonds and a little bit of effervescence. An interesting wine even with the acidity of the finish.
Kellner
Wine description:
- Country: Austria
- Grape: Pinot blanc
- Alcohol: 13%
- Style: Medium-bodied dry white wine
- Drink: Wine with potencial 2 to 5 years
- Supplier: K2T
- Price: 319 Kč
Mike's Tip
Apples, grapefruit and very subtle. Pair with salads, white fish or soft cheese. Also great for a relaxing glass on the sofa.
Hastrmany Frankovka
Wine description:
- Country: Czech Republic
- Grape: Blaufrankisch
- Alcohol: 13,5%
- Style: Medium-bodied red wine
- Drink: Wine suitable for aging
- Supplier: Winery Čapka
- Price: 350 Kč
Mike's Tip
The alcohol content is already a hint that this is not your everyday Frankovka. Grown on a slope of silica and gravel, the cheery taste is deep and intense. Aged for 18 months in oak vats, this is one you will remember .
Nechory Cabernet Sauvignon
Wine description:
- Country: Czech Republic
- Grape: Cabernet Saugvinon
- Alcohol: 13,5%
- Style: Medium-bodied red wine
- Drink: Wine with potencial 2 to 5 years
- Supplier: Winery Čapka
- Price: 350 Kč
Mike's Tip
The forest fruits with hints of blackcurrant, blackberries and coffee beans are so dark in color, the wine is dark Granat red half black and half blue. Cherries, black current and will do well in the cellar for years to come.
Kellner
Wine description:
- Country: Austria
- Grape: Zweigeltrebe
- Alcohol: 13%
- Style: Medium-bodied red wine
- Drink: Wine with potencial 2 to 5 years
- Supplier: K2T
- Price: 299 Kč
Mike's Tip
A light red that will go with fish !? This could be for you. Zweigeltrebe is a spicy red with an easy, light character making it a good match for salmon and chicken. Red fruits and green pepper all with a young vibrant flavor.
Mokata
Wine description:
- Country: Italy
- Grape: Neronet
- Alcohol: 13%
- Style: Full-bodied, rich red wine
- Drink: Wine with potencial 2 to 5 years
- Supplier: K2T
- vivino: 3.9
- Price: 359 Kč
Mike's Tip
A huge with the Vivino crowd! This dark fruit extravaganza is a delight in scent, taste and balance. Look for cherry, blackberry and mulberry with a spicy, luscious finish.
