Rosé 4×4

Being the tough guys that we are at IWCoK, we like nothing more than a summer of extreme sports,  BBQs and a perfectly chilled bottle of rosé. So we decided to chill out this August heat with a mix of rosés that can do any occasion, be it a bungee jump, or a BBQ with the in-laws. Extreme indeed!

Rosé “Terminus Teknikus”. Pretty much red wine that was never finished. Start with some red grapes, crush (not press) so that the juice can mix with the skins and seeds, then after a day or so press and separate the juice from the rest. This lets the juice get just a bit of the color from the skins, but doesn’t ferment with it (as red wines do). The amount of time the juice is in contact with the rest of the “must” determines how much color and tannin the wine will get.

This month we have 4 rosés from 4 different countries – Germany, Italy, France and Czech and all with different grape varieties. Two of these wines I deem “Superior” in that they were in my “Best Rosés of the summer” category. The other 2 are more modest wines at a fair price that work well for a mid week summer BBQ.

And for the meat on the bone, we have 2 hearty reds (knowing that rose may not give you your daily recommended allowance of tannins :-) , and a white that can only be described as OMG – where have you been all my life.
