April

Nobody is a fool this April with a lovely mix of French wines from an old friend with a new shop – Vinodome.

Expect a classic mix of reds from Bordeaux and light sunny whites from the south but a couple added bonus. The Grenache from Famille Descombe is one of those hidden treats. Full of flavour exploding in your mouth at a price we would expect to see 3 years ago. A nice balance to the tannins you will also find from Saint-Emillon and other Bordeaux regions.

The whites also grabbed my attention. Davalade from the hills outside of Montpellier is a great example of an “Any time, anywhere” white. Light and clear with a bit of green apple. Just enough to clean the pallet and keep you fresh. Then there is the very French sounding “Chignin Bergeron” and its delicate mix of apricots. Roussanne is not a grape we come by often, so enjoy this rare find.

We hope you will enjoy this “No Surprise”April, and the new treats and old favourites you will find at Vinodome.

A chardonnay of the sea! The deep roots of these vines extract a bit of salinity and minerals adding to what is otherwise a classic chardonnay with a hint of oak. Will do well with sushi or other Asian dishes.

Fresh, vibrant with medium acidity and a pale yellow colour. After the initial citrus flavour, look for minerals in the rather long finish.

This mix of 5 grapes (Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot) offers a mix of soft red fruits and a little pepper. Saint-Emilion is one of the most famous Bordeaux areas, and this ballanced red shows you why.
