I call this one an "All Rounder". Fresh and fruity, but a little less aggressive acidity making it an easy drink with any food, or even a bag of chips on the sofa given its more full bodied flavor. Probably the sugar, but hey, what do I know.

Dolcettto d’Alba

Another medium bodied fruity affair. Intense cherry and raspberry tones make this wine a little more acidic than that of Langhe, but again an excellent white meat red wine. Important for wines like this is to not drink them too warm!

Mike's Tip

I would imagine that you will either be “in” or “Out” with this one. 80% Zweigeltrebe and 20% Svatovavrinecke means this is a light, spicy wine with the flavor of peppers. However, it was surprisingly smooth given the parts used. Perfect for pork chops and boiled potatoes. Not an easy wine for the sofa, but interesting and quality all the way! I loved it.

Mike's Tip

Rich - Gold Medal Prague Wine Trophy. More up-market than Valpolicella superior, but more affordable than Amarone, Ripasso is the perfect half way house. Ripasso is made from using the dried skins of the grapes used for making Amarone, is is kind of the local's secret for best value. Expect a very full body and a secret sauce flavor. (It's in the skins!!!)

Mike's Tip

Complicated - Indeed we are all about trying new things, and a wine made from the Falanghina grape is going to be one of those. Coming from the Latin word falangae, it refers to the sticks wine makers put in the ground to hold up the wines. This is a regional wine from the south of Italy and Greece, with a light peach tone and a good dose of citrus. Be ready for some acids.

Mike's Tip

We wanted to make sure we had a deep, dark, intense red wine to break things up in a "Czech" month. What we put in was a powerhouse from Puglia. Dark fruits, spices and licorice. Big in the mouth with a good dose of tannin. Don't spill this black beauty on the carpet, you will never wash it out.

Prosecco Bacaro

Mike's Tip

From right in the middle of the Prosecco region comes this treat. Think green apple AND pears. And of course this one is 100% Glera and a bio dynamic wine. Of all the prosecco’s tasted this year, this one was the top scorer (despite the rather sus bottle).

Mike's Tip

Always a hit. This semi dry sparkling wine has a very low alcohol contant making it a super aperitif especially for those members of your family who prefer something a bit sweeter. If your on your own, try this wine with some spicey food.
