Caio Bello

Ciao Ciao Ciao

This July is all about our virtual Italian holiday and a feast of new Italian wines from our friends at La Fattoria ! We made sure to cover the classics this time with some familiar varieties, but have also gone a bit up market to make sure we test some of the top varieties from both ends of the country. So grab something stylish and get ready for our trip “down South” !

Whites this time start with a proper “Must do” Pinot Grigio before moving to a couple varieties that will leave a longer impression in your mouth with their fruity, oily finish. Top them all off with a classic Vermentino from Sardinia, and you have everything you need to match the entire fish counter at Macro !

The reds also ensure a classic (primitivo), a more elegant (and my favorite grape of 2024) Syrah, my usual must do whenever we have the chance Sangiovesse blend, and all topped off by a norther edge bombshell – Valpolicella Superiore.

So no matter if you were already there, on your way or just Viva la Vida in Kosor, enjoy the start of your summer holidays.

This summer delight of everyone’s favourite Italian holiday grape is described as a “wine of straw, lime, great fruit, lemon and melon soaked in a some mineral water then dried with a black towel ready to drink after your swim”. All I understood was “drink this summer ;-)

A mix of dry slate and wild flowers on top of an oily fruit base . Look for hints of pineapple and apple making the finish longer and a bit sweet. Will go great with Asian food or salmon.

When anyone talks about white wine from Sardinia, the first thing that comes out of anyone’s mouth is Vermentino - this is what they do probably better than anyone else on the planet. Those distinctive white flowers and saline finish will not be missed - this is a treat !

A powerful burst of red fruit that manages to finish off in a well balanced way. By blending in 30% from a year on oak into the rest from the tank, you get something more sophisticated than you expect .

  • Style: Medium-bodied red wine
  • Drink: Wine with potencial 2 to 5 years
  • Supplier: Le Marché

The winemaker describes this wine as a bit "savage". Black fruits and a bit spicy, this is a wine of character with a Hachette recommendation (not many Corsican wines do!)

Tedeschi Valpolicella Superiore

Ruby red and a blend of cherry and currents. The Tedeschi estate is a Valpolicella patriarch with this wine aged for 12 months in oak barrels before going on your tables.

Roceno Syrah

An elegant Sicilian full of fruity, red fruit "Syrah" style. Less acidic than other red varieties, and a but more elegant, this is an ideal wine for light meat dinners, and pasta dishes
