What makes this wine interesting is although technically a Sangiovese, the last few % is a mix of 4 different grapes. Plus it is not a Tuscan native, but from Emilia Romagna, a ways down the highway. Red fruits and a bit of acidity that will age well. Let it breath, pick your protean to accompany and enjoy it on a warm night with all the windows open!

You guys know what to expect from a Primitivo by now, and this one with 5 years of a 3.8 Vivino rating will not disappoint. Dark, heavy and a bit sweet, it is silky smooth and will put you into relax mode after the first glass ;-)

"Open and let it breath! After and hour or so, you will be saying Very Berry and still not be sure what it was ;-) A mix of red and back berries here in this mix of
Montepulciano and Sangiovese. Medium intensity, but a relatively long finish."

This is an easy, fruity red that you will pull out with the pizza on Wednesday night, or the pasta you cook on Sunday. A mix of red fruit and a bit of pepper, medium in body that won't loose the food with it.

What I like about the reds from this region? Raspberries! Based on a classic Bordeaux blend and mixed with a bit of Kefrankos, you get a very fruity wine of red fruits, so medium bodied and a bit of acidity. Perfect for grilled meats with a bit of fat that needs to be cut through.

Bananas, pineapple, grapefruit. You decide what exotic fruit you want to find in the this classic chardonnay. A simple wine with a beautiful presentation - great for any day you wish.

Another white from the Tokay region that brings a classic bouquet to an otherwise dry and delicate wine. Muscat is known for its big nose, and this won't disappoint. Ideal pairing with shell fish, mussels or oysters.

A classic Hungarian white variety, Furmint has been the drink of choice of royalty over the ages. Don't confuse this with what you think you know about wines from Tokay. This is a modern wine, dry with strong fruit tones. A serious drink for an elegant meal.

A bit of chardonnay, furmint and Muscat complete this medium bodied white. Look for a mix of sweet tropical fruit from one variety mixing with high acidity with others all coming together with a long finish. Great with salmon or chicken.

Syrah may not be the first variety that comes to mind when we say Sicily, but you find it readily available in the shadows of Primitivo and Nero d'Avola. This is a "light" red for the south, and more red berry flavour than blackberry. Look for cherry and cranberry tastes.

Lets start with a big number, 91. That is the rating given but leading wine critic James Suckling. This classic Rhone Valley blend of Mourvedre and Syrah, delivers the distinctive tastes you expect from the region. Pair wisely and let this wine breath, it packs a punch.

Deep, dark and hearty. A simple but honest Nero d'Avola from Sicily that is full of blackberry, vanilla and plum. Pair it with a messy burger or anything else that can stand up to the full bodied wine.

This is an entry level classic Rhone Valley blend from Xavier Vignon. A bit spicy and full of Grenache, it delivers a great balance of tannin and body at a very fair price.

This is an indigenous grape from Sicily. Light and full of minerals, this is an ideal sipping wine on hot days and the crisp flavour and low alcohol mean it will keep you light on your feet. Excellent with fried fish or calamari - this is a summer vacation formula.

Some of you may remember previous Grillo from the south of Italy. What makes Grillo special and different from other regional wines is more body, and a longer finish. Good acidity and good body. Great with any fish or light chicken dish.

Another classic Bordeaux, this time blending Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. The last grape is the trick here making the wine fuller and rounder. A lovely blend of satin and tannin to pair with red meat.

This Zweigelt has a medium to strong body, and only light peppery tones on the finish. The result if a robust red ready for red meat with the hallmark spies on the edge. Excellent value for money.

A classic Bordeaux blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc. Excellent structure and tannin. Expect more fruit than pepper and you won't be disappointed with this classic blend.

My reactions when I tasted this wine for the first time - WOW. I never thought (EVER) that I would have a Czech Frankova with this depth and structure. One of the best made Czech red wines I have ever drank - exceptional.

This deep red and purple blend of Sangiovese and Montepulciano brings a mouthful of rich fruit and spice. Look for black berries and cherries, a little black pepper and some light smoky notes.

I know we are making a habit of Veltliner, but they are just so good. This entry from the Kamptal region brings more earthy tones of seeds and minerals. Fresh and fruity as always, a mix of almonds and a long balanced finish - enjoy.

A classic Riesling giving you so much green apple, you may not want desert. You get a classic balance of zesty excitement and sugar, that makes this a great all round dinner drink.

Depth, structure, and medium dry, this wine is a mouthful! Look for mixed berries and lemon, with a long full finish. Will go perfect with spicy Asian food and (bonus) your mother in law will love it - a very easy, inviting drink. Madl is the man!

Vermentino is the most typical white grape grown on Sardinia. Look for a initial burst of grapefruit and citrus, but with a long full bodied finish. This is a relaxing wine that will go great with fish, and continuing after dinner .

Think of Verdicchio as Gruner Veltiner's southern cousin. "Verde" or green comes from the slight green / gold cover of this grape full of citrus and acidity. This is a very fresh wine best served with salty foods.

Fresh, acidic and a great way to open the evening as an aperitif. This blend will work great with white fish (even fried). Go for a fried seafood plate with a big mayonnaise - this is a perfect white to clean your mouth up after each bite.

This is the entry level rioja from one of Spain's rock star wineries - Bodegas Roda. I can't imagine rioja being any better. Red fruit over and a touch of tobacco, good acidity and a bone dry finish. This winery has earned it's reputation. Delicious.

Young and still a bit edgy, but all the basics are there for a great tempranillo. These wines are made for tapas, so get out the olives, bread, butter, anchovies and salami, a couple of glasses and go OUTSIDE. Some tannins here and a bit of pepper over a base of dark fruit.

If you hadn't noticed yet, Tempranillo with a full, fruit and powerful dark red wine. Not lost in oak, so has a touch of acidity that makes it go well with cold meats, olive oil and baked vegetables. Well balanced and a full bodied mouth of dark fruit from the forest floor.

This 100% Tempranillo could have been called "Power Punch". Full in your face cherry and plum, mixed with a touch of smoke and vanilla. Not a subtle wine, so pair with with smoked meats that you can enjoy eating small bits of as you sip this one and watch the sun set.

Wines from the Duero region are known to be dark, strong and full of dark fruits. This wine is no exception. Look for cherry, blackberry mixed with leather and smoke. A lot of mother earth on the nose and in the body. Serve with STRONG meat dishes. (no pork or chicken, better a burger or a steak)

Verdejo on oak main a complex and mix of summer flowers tamed by age and a bit of vanilla. Full bodied, with a touch of butter, the finish is a mix of citrus and calm accompaniment. Serve with white meat of salmon. A real beauty.

Not only a great Vivino rating, but a great wine at a very fair price. Verdejo is known to be floral on the nose and a bit acidic in the finish. Look for green apple, and pear with a mouth that is impressively full for a light summer white.

Light, fruity, and full of sunshine. A fantastic young verdejo with hints of apricot and nectarines. A fabulous value at this price and one you should look to for summer barbeque season when the world descends on your place!

Yes, a Valpolicella Ripasso. This means you will get a mature, deep, red that has a pronounced flavor of ripe fruit and cherry. Let to age in oak for a year, the mellow flavor will be a hit with everybody at the table.

Of all the wines in Piedmont, Dolcetto is the easiest one to drink. Look for a fruity flavor with firm tannin, licorice and leather. With a score of 91 points, this one is elegant and a winner.

Not a huge full bodied hitter, but a great medium body and 100% bio. I found the cherries very pronounced, and although the nose wasn't particularly exciting, the balance was measured making it a very easy to drink wine.

Montepulciano means black berries, licorice and spices. A medium bodied with a dose of tannin, I suggest a pizza or spaghetti. Best with red sauce and some cheese.

This Sangiovese and Merlot blend brings a dark ruby, fruity wine with a touch of tannin and acidity. Served best with red meats and grilled cheese. The fruit in this wine will not be lost in any meal.

Crystal clear, a little salty, and a light fruity flavor. This is a delicate wine that will match well with salads and white fish. Keep it away from oily and strong foods because this almost forgotten variety with hints of honey defiantly deserves its place in your mouth.

Not being a huge chardonnay fan myself, I loved this one because it was so different. No banana or pineapple, but full of citrus and exotic fruit. Expect a bit more acidity here, and that is exactly what makes this wine great.

Soave is one of Italy's Northern treasures. A rounder mouth and longer finish, this varietal will fill you with a creamy, citrus, salty flavor. Sound complicated? Don't worry - Soave never disappoints.

Kind of like Brunello's little brother, this is an elegant wine suitable for any table of baked meats. This is a medium bodied wine, refreshing with a good dose of tannin. Not a relaxing sofa drink, but a great companion at the table.

Another Sangiovesse based cuvee, this is a light acidic red with a bit of green pepper. This is one you will want to pair with food, be it pizza or pasta and can be served slightly cooler.

If I just introduce this wine as a heavy red from around Etna, you probably already have an idea of what your going to get. A mix of many things black (Nerello Mascalese a Nerello Cappuccio), James Suckling gave this heavy hitter a 93, and we think he was being modest!

"A PERFECT pizza wine". That is how Robert Parker describe this one. All the classic hallmarks of a Chianti from Colli Sensi region. Medium bodied, full of fruit and tobacco, and a touch of acidity. Not too heavy, not too light = just right ;-)

Lugana became the "Must Drink" Italian white last year and is still topping the charts today. This is a wine full of tropical fruits with a good balance of acidity. A serious wine that is great for starting any party or sticking with till the end. Good stuff...

Just like the label, this biological wine is full of character and (apple) flavor. A mix of 4 little known grape varieties, this wine is dominated by floral tones and minerals. Plenty of horse power in this one, so expect a long finish and pair with pasta with tomato sauce.

Be careful here. The lower alcohol level and ripe lemon flavor makes this a refreshing wine that will disappear in your glass (with your help of course ;-) If you get past the lemon peel, you will find some apricots hidden in the back.

Straw in color with light green highlights when held up to the light, this is a light wine that will work with any easy food. Look for green apple flavor and a touch of banana. Serve very cold!

Dark, mysterious and so heavy you can taste it even when still corked. That is what a Primitivo should be. This flavor bomb was aged for 6 month in oak barrels, giving it rounder side to the fruit flavor that is oozing out of the bottle. Not a shy wine and one the ladies will love.

Red like the cherries that you can taste inside. This classic North Italian red is the flagship of this winery, so a lot of attention goes into making sure it has all those qualities that you expect, light fruits, vanilla and a balanced flavor that only comes from aging in oak. Elegance from head to heal.

Grown from vines that are over 70 years old, this is a full bodied well balanced wine that will hold its own with strong foods. A deep ruby color, it has an intense nose and an unmistakable licorice flavor buried in red fruit. Enough tannin to cut through any steak, I definitely recommend red meat on the grill – break out your grill.

A light but well rounded blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this red will go best with white meats or even fish. I recommend this wine with soft tannins as a lunch time wine that will not wipe you out, or for that dinner of fresh bread and mortadella that we all do once in a while.

What I like about Soave, is that is goes with just about anything. This Bio entry stays true to form and brings a light apricot flavor with a bit of earth giving it a mineral finish. Chill well and serve in big glasses. This is a drinking wine – loved it.

Sicily was always a mix of cultures, and this wine is a perfect example of how “complex” things can get. A mix of full flavored and “thick” Viognier with a tight and acidic Catarratto to cut it down to size. Soft or sharp ? You figure it out. Regardless, it has a great full bodied fruit flavor with a short finish that will leave you refreshed.

Fresh and a little spicy, this lemon and apple mix of acidity and minerals will be sure to wake up your mouth! Unmistakably full bodied, expect a lemon flavor that will stay with you for a while.
