A respectable Bordeaux blend from one of my favourite wine regions anywhere, Goriska Brda. On a base of merlot, you will find a dry yet fruit wine full of cherry and raspberry.

Mike's Tip

Another easy wine for when you just want a glass with dinner, or help your cooking :-) This Slovenian red blend will not rock your world, but finding a red of this quality at 5 Euro is one ticket to survive inflation.

Mike's Tip

Also known as sauvignon vert and most commonly Friulano, this is a common variety of the Friuli region of northern Italy. Sharper than other sauvignon varieties, this is a wine best drank with food, particularly white fish or pork.

Mike's Tip

Simple and Fresh is all you need sometimes. This Slovenian pinot is the perfect solution to the "just want one glass on Tuesday night", then Wednesday and so on. Need not be complicated to enjoy a glass with dinner.

Krasno Pinot Noir

Wine description:

Mike's Tip

Slovenia is not a Pinot Noir Mecca. Most years the quality is so mediocre, they don't even bother bottling it. But every 4 or 5 years they get it just right - this is that year. I am always careful when selecting a PN for our box knowing how particular it is, but I found this one not too complicated and delicious - give it a go !

Krasno Merlot

Wine description:

  • Country: Slovenia
  • Grape: Merlot
  • Alcohol: 13,5%
  • Style: Medium-bodied red wine
  • Drink: Wine with potencial 2 to 5 years
  • Supplier: Vína-slovinsko.cz
  • Box: Along the way
  • Price: 249 Kč

Mike's Tip

Merlot is no stranger to the Brda region of Slovenia. This is a fruity and slightly peppered wine that will go great with a burger and all kinds of "eat with your hands" food. Not complicated, but very fruity with a dash of acidity to keep your pallet clean.

Krasno Rebula

Wine description:

  • Country: Slovenia
  • Grape: Cuveé
  • Alcohol: 13,5%
  • Style: Light and refreshing dry white wine
  • Drink: Wine for immediate consumption
  • Supplier: Vína-slovinsko.cz
  • Box: Along the way
  • Price: 249 Kč

Mike's Tip

Rebula has got to be one of the best white varieties from the area around western Slovenia and Eastern Italy. Although sometimes aged on oak, I prefer it fresh right out of the tank. A crisp and lively wine from the Brda region - love it!

Bourbon

Wine description:

  • Country: Slovenia
  • Grape: Cabernet Saugvinon
  • Alcohol: 14,5%
  • Style: Full-bodied, rich red wine
  • Drink: Wine suitable for aging
  • Supplier: Vína-slovinsko.cz
  • Box: What brought Čáp
  • Price: 599 Kč

Mike's Tip

The only thing wrong with this wine is the bottle is too small :-) This is a "Top Shelf" Slovenian Cab that can hold its own against any Bordeaux. Dark fruits and exceptionally dry. 100% lovely.

Quercus Rebula

Wine description:

  • Country: Slovenia
  • Grape: Ribola
  • Alcohol: 12,5%
  • Style: Light and refreshing dry white wine
  • Drink: Wine for immediate consumption
  • Supplier: Vína-slovinsko.cz
  • Box: Balkan Style
  • Price: 199 Kč

Mike's Tip

Another white grape that you wont find outside of Slovenia and Friuli. Made to be drank young, you get a slightly higher acidity and a good dose of flowers and grass. If you get a chance to try one that has been on oak, the acidity will be balanced with a nutty oak
flavor that is really something special. Have to admit that Rebula from Goriska Brda goes down as one of our favorite summer whites.

Quercus Sauvignon Blanc

Wine description:

  • Country: Slovenia
  • Grape: Sauvignon blanc
  • Alcohol: 12,5%
  • Style: Light and refreshing dry white wine
  • Drink: Wine for immediate consumption
  • Supplier: Vína-slovinsko.cz
  • Box: Balkan Style
  • Price: 199 Kč

Mike's Tip

This is a fresh, acidic Sauvignon with all the hallmarks of the grape hailing from a grassy region. Why the screw top ? Sauvignon Blanc from the steel tank was one of the first varieties first to leave the cork behind and all for a simple reason, this wine doesn't benefit from age. It is made to be drank young when it still has all it's power and spark. Perfect with cold fish or something in a shell.

Quercus Sauvignonasse

Wine description:

  • Country: Slovenia
  • Grape: Sangiovese
  • Alcohol: 13%
  • Style: Light and refreshing dry white wine
  • Drink: Wine for immediate consumption
  • Supplier: Vína-slovinsko.cz
  • Box: Balkan Style
  • Price: 199 Kč

Mike's Tip

Probably the most complicated wine in this
months box. Unlike Sauvignon Blanc that can have a very heavy mineral base and high acidity, this variety is much softer making for an easier drink. Not sweet, but nice subtle floral tones and found only in this region! This variety can only be found in This is not a bold wine, so don't match it with any strong cheese or fish. Think cod or soft cheese.
