Back to School Balkan Style

Back to school, Back to work, Back to real life – With so much reality around us, IWCoK went Bulgarian!

Pretty simple really. 18 months ago when did our first Bulgarian wine box and it was a huge hit. Big, round reds and clean crisp whites that nobody expected, but everybody loved. So after the light and bubbly’s that we had in August, we wanted something a bit more serious to take “Back to school”.

Bigger is better! Did you know that Bulgaria used to be the 2nd biggest wine producing nation in the world?! Well, Communism fixed that, but the big bold reds that became the trademark of this land have survived. “No Mans Land” is as close to an IWCoK legend as we get. This was a hugely popular Bordeaux blend last year and this time we break it up and do a pure Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon both of the quality we have come to expect from this winery. The Merlot with more tannin great for some meat, the Cabernet much rounder and good with cheese. Enjoy them both.

As for whites, we have mixed things up with 4 different varieties including a Viognier and a Muscat Ottonel (which is one of the most typical grapes of the region). Both a little less common, but great to develop your pallet. Add in a Sauvignon and a chardonnay, we have every base covered.
