Box: February 2014

Summer Heat in February ! ? !

This month we intend to heat things up with some wine form the southern part of our planet. What better than South America!

For this part of the world. we will be going back to “Our” specialist – Vinicola. They are the major mover for this region, and have put together a nice mix of Chilean and Argentinian wines that run the road from fresh to rich to satisfy everybody.

Chardonnay Heaven ? Tough to find a region that offers more diversity in Chardonnay than South America. Indeed a long way from the mineral chardonnay taste of Chablis, we have found some that burst with freshness or have a lovely round oak flavor. All at a great value.

For those looking for a hearty red, the Cabernet Sauvignon rules the roost. Be it out of the tank or barrel, these are crying out for a BIG piece of protein to accompany. And what would this box be without a Malbec!

So be it a steak on the grill or a fresh white for sipping in the sun, we got you covered for what seems to be “Spring” in February – indeed crazy.

For and entry level, every day, steel tank wine we thought this had a lot of fresh flavor. Remarkable ? No, but bursting with pear flavor and for this money… a great deal for a Tuesday night !

This is the “Other” white wine of hte region and the alternative for a more mineral taste. Slightly higher acidity so pick something to eat with that it can cut through – say CHEESE PLEASE .

Fruit galore! So much plum in the nose and in the mouth. Also a hint of vanilla from the oak.

My favorite red of the lot. No aggressive pepper, but soft berry and vanilla. Soft and ballanced – very relaxing !

Chardonnay Bianchi Las Paredes 2012

Mike's Tip

Definitely the most intense flavor of all the chardonnays we tasted. The oak is a little less pronounced, making it a more European flavor. For a young wine – very classy.
