Malbec time

I thought it wouldn’t be appropriate if we completely ignored one of the most prominent red wine varieties in the world, even though I missed World Malbec Day in April. So, with exactly 6 months of additional aging ,  IWCoK brings you a Malbec month special.

I ran into 3 Malbec a few months back and knew they had to come to the club. Two from Bordeaux and one from Touraine bring a variety of flavours to this fruity grape. One spicy, another softer, but all with the fruity full flavor you can expect from the grape.  Fill in the gaps, we also slipped in a Montepulciano and a Nero d’Avola from the tip of southern Italy. All full, big reds for the fall.

Our whites are a mix of the greats. Start with the Pinot Grigio to remind you of summer holiday, then slip into the Austrian Veltliner (to commemorate the highway sticker you had to buy to get to your summer holiday), then move to the Chardonnay to serve with the salmon you pulled out of the freeze, and finish off with a Prague Gold Wine Trophy Sauvignon from South Africa for that exotic desert.

So don’t fret about a mere 6 month delay of the Malbec (blame the chips 😉 ), and think of it as a 6 month anniversary and tuck in to some lovely full bodied greats this fall.

Our first Malbec, and this one from the Touraine region of northern France. Grown in the region of the Loire (valley), this Malbec has a higher acidity and more spice. Still quite fruity but quite bold in the mouth. Great for stews or goulash.
