Box: March 2014

Carnival

March is Carnival month for many. For some Masopust in Trebotov may do the trick, but for others nothing else will substitute for Carnival in Venice – the grandaddy of all European costume events.

March also means Spring. So this month we decided to put on our fancy hats, but away our thick socks, and celebrate with some wines that will not weigh us down as we Samba all night. or in IWCoK’s case, dinner with top Venitian chef Daniela Doretto. (yes I borrowed her glasses :-)

To start things off, we have a white and a red from Veneto, the home of Venice. I fell in love with the Vicentini Agostino winery some time ago and can not believe we have their Soave and a Valpolicella in the same offer! Drink this white very well chilled and take the red with white meat.

Next up we have a pair coming from the very western end of Spain. Arribes lies along the Duero river and the Portuguese border. What these guys lack in “location” they make up for in value. Both the red and the white do very well for their price range, and offer a great outdoor wine for the summer.

Speaking of value, we also dropped in a great entry level Nebbiolo and a Chianti. Both come from a steel tank meaning they are fresh and clean and like the other reds, more suitable for light foods and white meat.

Rounding our selection out, we take a pair a white wines from Villany Hungary. These are definitely the most complex whines in the box offering a more central European taste. This is more for those who want the sun but not the heat.

So once again, you need not be all dressed up to taste some of the best party wines out there. IWCoK Delivers !
