Box: January 2021

2021 WILL BE BETTER!

IWCoK starts this year with a wish for all our members. That everybody goes into to this one with more optimism than we finished 2020 with, and that we can all start to meet and greet like we did just 1 year ago.  This is super important because, IWCoK will be 10 years old in 2021, and “Management” have decided we will be celebrating all year long ! So lets get started .

January brings a mix of French wines from our long time partner Le Marche. Not only do they bring great wine at very fair prices, the cheese and fresh seafood is to die for. (we have the post-holiday kilos to prove it).

White wines this month are a mix of Burgundy Chardonnay and Sauvignon from the Loire. Two very different variety joined by a heavy helping of mineral flavor giving them their distinctive character.  We also give you the chance to try a Tattoo, this month – this time the decision is easy.

For the reds we took to the south. Rhone valley and the south with its warm climate and wind bring out the best of the Syrah and Malbec coming to you in January. Even if we can only dream right now of a summer holiday in Provence, these wines will take you just a little bit closer.

WE CAN DO THIS GUYS ! You and IWCoK making the world better in 2021.

Mike's Tip

For me the two top regions for Sauvignon Blanc are Marlborough and the Loire, and this is a great example of the second. Gooseberries have a sweet & sour flavor with distinctive "nettle" flavor. This wine will take you away to your cottage garden.

Maison Fonan

Mike's Tip

Half way between Toulouse and Bordeaux, this south / west producer produces regional wines of character. The "Tattoo" Sauvignon and Gros Manseng blend delivers a light blend of peach and flowers with low acidity.

Petite Envie

  • Style: Light and refreshing dry white wine
  • Drink: Wine for immediate consumption
  • Supplier: Le Marché

Mike's Tip

Sometimes you have to leave it up to the locals, and this is a perfect example. A mix of six grape varieties from the Languedoc region. Floral aroma and a crisp but not biting flavor.

Florent Descombe

Wine description:

  • Country: France
  • Grape: Chardonnay
  • Alcohol: 12,5%
  • Style: Medium-bodied dry white wine
  • Drink: Wine with potencial 2 to 5 years
  • Supplier: Le Marché
  • vivino: 3.5
  • Price: 199 Kč

Mike's Tip

Produced by an established French "Negociant", they taken grapes from various growers and created something of their own for 5 generations. These Chardonnay grapes were taken from the Burgundy region around Macon, so look for a hint of Chablis character.

O’THENTIQUE

  • Alcohol: 13,5%
  • Style: Medium-bodied red wine
  • Drink: Wine with potencial 2 to 5 years
  • Supplier: Le Marché
  • vivino: 3.5
  • Price: 149 Kč

Mike's Tip

A true "potpourri" of southern Rhone grapes. This mix of Carrignan, Grenache, Marselan, and Syrah has all the foundations of its big brothers in the region. Let this wine breath for an hour or decant and you will have a lovely wine for any white or red meat dish.

Florent Descombe

Wine description:

  • Country: France
  • Grape: Cabernet Saugvinon
  • Alcohol: 13,5%
  • Style: Medium-bodied red wine
  • Drink: Wine with potencial 2 to 5 years
  • Supplier: Le Marché
  • vivino: 3.1
  • Price: 229 Kč

Mike's Tip

A dry red wine with deep colour and few flaws. Look for a ripe plum flavor and a very dry finish. Pair with strong red meats and let breath for 1 hour before drinking.

Les Roques de Cana

Wine description:

  • Country: France
  • Grape: Malbec
  • Alcohol: 13%
  • Style: Full-bodied, rich red wine
  • Drink: Wine with potencial 2 to 5 years
  • Supplier: Le Marché
  • vivino: 4
  • Price: 299 Kč

Mike's Tip

Big, black cherries is what you can expect in this Malbec from Cahors. A mix of heavy black fruit, tannin and vanilla. Aged 6 months in steel, this is a casual wine that will go best with cheese.

Cotes du Rhone

Wine description:

  • Country: France
  • Grape: Cuveé
  • Alcohol: 14,5%
  • Style: Full-bodied, rich red wine
  • Drink: Wine with potencial 2 to 5 years
  • Supplier: Le Marché
  • vivino: 3.7
  • Price: 279 Kč

Mike's Tip

A power wine from the Rhone valley that will bring you as close as you can get to Chateau Neuf as you can get without paying the price. This is primarily a Grenache and Syrah blend from the vineyards around Avignon that benefits from the warm Mistral winds.
